![]() Meanwhile, it can't be denied that the film had a very basic plot that was noticeably similar to Karate Kid in which LaRusso gets caught up in a love triangle, gets frustrated while training with Mr. After all, the film did receive widespread criticism and was even nominated for five Golden Raspberry awards at the time, meaning Macchio certainly wasn't the only one disappointed in it. The majority of Macchio's criticisms of the film are valid. Additionally, he criticized the film for practically rehashing the events of the first two films but adding cartoonish tones to it through the villains and violence. He especially felt this for his character, LaRusso, who didn't seem to move forward or go anywhere despite time passing by. Essentially, his disappointment in Karate Kid 3 comes down to his belief that the story didn't develop the characters enough. He has relayed his disappointment in the film several times in the past across various interviews and podcast appearances. Macchio's criticism of Karate Kid 3 has never really been a secret. Cobra Kai has been able to breathe new life into Karate Kid 3's characters and has given them the development they deserve. However, the film has been saved in a way because it provided so much material for Cobra Kai. ![]() Macchio confirmed that he still holds the belief that Karate Kid 3 failed to move the story and characters forward and suffered from a cartoonish storyline. Related: Cobra Kai’s Kreese Twist Prevents A Perfect Villain Story For Season 6In an interview with Screen Rant about his memoir, Waxing On: The Karate Kid And Me, Macchio explained how Cobra Kai saved Karate Kid 3. ![]() Cobra Kai has brought back many characters from the original films, including Karate Kid 3's Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) and Mike Barnes (Steve Kanan). The series is a direct sequel to the Karate Kid films and follows LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) 34 years after they fought in the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. After a 29-year hiatus, Macchio reprised his role as LaRusso in 2018 for the Netflix original series, Cobra Kai. I recommend it with all my heart. While Karate Kid 3 marked Macchio's last appearance in a Karate Kid film, it didn't mark his final appearance as LaRusso. It's literally given me and a friend a stomach ache on several occasions. Only exciting moment is Myagi taking on 3 dudes, but it's obviously a stunt double. Now, what's to stop his enemies from kicking the hell out of him as soon as he leaves the building? Bottom line is the story and acting are both the worst failures I think I've ever seen. So Larusso is beside himself with pride, laughing, cheering and pointing to Myagi in triumph. Anyway, with the stale, worn out, bottom of the barrel guidance of Myagi, Larusso pulls out a one punch victory to finish the tournament over his nemesis, who had been penalized points for kicking the hell out of him illegally throughout the match. Why force him to enter the tournament? Just kick the hell out of him. The bad guys spend the whole movie trying to force Macchio to defend his "Under 18" All Valley Tournament (he's a real life 27 yr old) while periodically kicking the hell out of him. I could go on forever, so I'll just mention the biggest plot foul-up. The love interest is completely pointless, and her acting is not even worthy of a detailed criticism. It honestly sounds like a 6th grader wrote the script. He hops around like a pogo stick in an attempt to make the dullness and pointlessness go away. The script is so horrible and Macchio knows it, that's why he has to overact with his body. This isn't terrible like "Face Off" or "Con Air" or even "Airborne".these films were able to do much more of what they intended. One of the worst movie ever made in my opinion, also the funniest.
